The successful applicant will become part of a multi-center effort to study learning and memory in neurosurgical patients who have implanted electrodes for seizure mapping. As part of this project, we are developing a novel brain stimulation therapy for patients with memory disorders, which involves collaboration with six different clinical and research centers.

We seek an experienced candidate who can effectively direct large research projects, has the ability to interface effectively with neurosurgeons, neurologists and engineers, and has the technical skills to work with sophisticated data acquisition and brain stimulation systems.  The selected applicant will directly oversee a team of research specialists and coordinate the data collection and analysis efforts of researchers at multiple sites. Additional duties will include ensuring the longevity of the work by helping to prepare grant applications and reports, and contributing to the selection of future research agendas. The position is contingent upon funding.
The Computational Memory Lab is looking to recruit a DMD student for the 2019 Fall semester to help design UNITY-based memory experiments to interface with closed-loop brain stimulation algorithms. Research Project Manager

The Computational Memory Lab at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to hire a Research Project Manager to help lead a multi-center study of brain stimulation aimed at improving human memory and understanding its neural basis.

Prior published work from our team has demonstrated meaningful improvements in memory using machine-learning-based closed loop brain stimulation. These projects are funded by multiple grants and involve multi-site collaborations across the U.S. and in Germany. We seek an experienced candidate who can effectively direct large research projects, has the ability to interface effectively with neurosurgeons, neurologists and engineers, and has the technical skills to work with sophisticated data acquisition and brain stimulation systems. The selected applicant will directly oversee a team of research specialists and coordinate the data collection and analysis efforts of researchers at multiple sites. Additional duties will include ensuring the longevity of the work by helping to prepare grant applications and reports, and contributing to the selection of future research agendas. The position is contingent upon funding.


Required Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (PhD, DSc, etc.) in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of research experience, preferably in the space of cognition, brain and behavior.
  • Strong technical skills working with electronics, hardware, and software.
  • Experience with coordinating team-based research.
  • Experience with scientific/statistical computing techniques and languages (Python/SciPy, MATLAB, R, or similar).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to clinical sites for research coordination.


Preferred:

  • Experience with grant progress report preparation and proposal writing.
  • Experience with regulatory affairs: IRB protocol submission and continuing reviews.
  • Experience with clinical and/or research electrophysiology systems.
  • Neuroscience/neuroanatomy background knowledge.
  • Experience with neuroimaging techniques (MRI, CT).
  • Experience using UNIX/Linux systems, including high performance computing.

Research and Programming Specialist

The Computational Memory Lab at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to recruit a Research and Programming Specialist to assist with a multi-center project aimed at identifying patterns of brain activity that predict when memory will succeed or fail, and using these patterns to guide closed-loop stimulation protocols aimed at boosting memory in patients with brain injury or neurological disease. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, data scientists, and engineers to carry out research under several federally funded grants. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, a solid foundation of technical skills, and a strong desire to further build those skills during their tenure in the lab, as well as a passion for research aimed at understanding the neural basis of human memory. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work with clinical researchers, neurologists, and neurosurgeons at top medical research centers across the country. The position requires familiarity with Python, C#, or similar programming languages, and comfort working in a Linux or Unix environment. Research Assistant (Undergraduate Work-Study)

The Computational Memory Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking to recruit a part-time Undergraduate Research Assistant to assist with federally funded studies of human memory processes. The successful candidate will join a team of research scientists studying the ways in which the brain stores and retrieves verbal and spatial memories.

Major responsibilities include carrying out experiments on human memory by means of high-density scalp EEG recordings and annotating vocal responses in memory tasks. This position requires an individual who possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. This would be an ideal position for a student interested in cognitive neuroscience, medicine, psychology, or bioengineering.
